On behalf of the board, it is my honor to introduce the following strategic planning document for the CFA Society of Japan (CFA Japan).
This plan was created using an abbreviated strategic planning process which entailed a five hour strategy session followed by a review and refinement of the resulting documentation. During the strategy session, we reviewed and slightly modified our mission statement to ensure that it appropriately reflects our purpose for existence and the business we conduct on behalf of our members. In addition, we crafted a vision statement that describes what success look like to our society.
Next, we assessed our society’s current situation by evaluating data pertaining to members/candidates, product/service mix, previous strategies, and the CFA Institute Vision 2012. This data was used to complete a SWOT analysis for our society. Thereafter, we worked to agree on strategic priorities by identifying and assessing possible core strategies. Finally, we drafted our strategic goals, identified objectives for each strategic goal, and wrote the strategic plan.
The strategy session was attended by eleven of the fifteen board members along with administrative staff. Also in attendance was Brian Singer, Chair, Board of Governors, CFA Institute and Ashvin Vibhakar, Managing Director of the Asia Pacific Region, CFA Institute. The planning session was facilitated by Jeff Matthias, CFA, CFA Institute. The draft document was reviewed by all board members. A majority of the Board’s comments were incorporated into the final document.
Our strategic plan focuses on four key areas that will propel us towards achieving our mission. These areas included the member value proposition, a broad brand awareness campaign targeted toward employers, leveraging university relationships, and our governance process. This plan is designed to drive value to our members and local investment community.
Thank you for your interest in the CFA Society of Japan.
Sincerely,
Charles J Yang, CFA
